Dear reader (),

September was a busy month for the Harvard community.

On 14 September 2023, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam joined a long list of Crimsons who were popularly elected to the presidency role in their countries. The Club sent its congratulations to the President, who replied almost immediately to let us know that he is looking forward to the Harvard community’s continued contributions to Singapore. I'm confident that our community will be able to meet his call to action!

On 29 September 2023, Harvard inaugurated Claudine Gay to be the university's 30th president and first black president. I'm excited about her tenure. President Gay has made it a point to engage with the global Harvard community to leverage its convening power in business, in law and in public policy to be of service to the world. Her inauguration address is a call to action and a reminder to each of us that we have a reservoir of courage and resources to draw from to do our part to build trust in a society that threatens to fragment, improve lives through the work we do, and live out our aspirations to do that which may seem impossible. Remember our "willingness to sound foolish, risk ridicule, be dismissed as a dreamer"? We will need those in gobs to meet today's challenges.

Let's work together to meet these calls to action. If you have a great idea or a passion to change the world that HCS can support, drop me a note at [email protected]. In the meantime, enjoy the events that we have put together this month - rock climbing, improv workshop, and our joint events with the HBS Club of Singapore.

Veritas.

President of the Harvard Club of Singapore
